Are There Health Issues Invoved With The Seven Day Cabbage Soup Diet?

 

The 7 day cabbage soup diet has been around for a longtime.  There is no particular quality that the cabbage soup possesses except that it is low calorie and that eating lots of it will enable you to get full quicker and lose weight faster.  The entire plan doesn’t involve very many calories.  People may indeed lose quite a bit of weight on this plan; however, they do tend to gain the weight back.  This is probably because the weight that is lost isn’t all fat, for the most part, it is fluids. 

The 7 day cabbage soup diet mainly consists of green cabbage, celery, bell pepper, and tomatoes which are all seasoned to taste with a selected number of allowed seasonings such as salt, pepper, garlic powder, soy sauce, and parsley.  In addition, bullion cubes, and soup mix are also used.

Each day that the diet is used, there are different foods to be added to try to break the monotony.    These foods can include certain fruits, meats, and vegetables.  The meats can be baked or broiled and no fried foods are allowed on the 7 day cabbage soup diet.

Foods which cannot be eaten are bread, soft drinks of any type, alcoholic beverages, and absolutely no fried foods.  A person is encouraged to consume all of the soup they can possibly eat and to eat it at anytime of the day they wish.  The soup has to be eaten at least once a day.

There is a massive amount of gas being built up in the digestive system.  Obviously a dieter would not feel very comfortable going to many public functions.  With the large amounts of cabbage being consumed the soup has to cause some gastrointestinal discomfort.

This diet doesn’t address the problems of unhealthy eating habits.  It isn’t very healthy practice at all because it lacks too many nutritional values.  It lacks nutrients such as protein, vitamins, minerals, and complex carbohydrates.  There is only a small list of different foods to be eaten each day along with the cabbage soup to wipe away your hunger.  There is not enough variety in the food varieties to keep someone from being bored stiff.  The dieter is restricted to eating at home since the food has to be prepared a particular way with only a number of seasonings allowed, plus, the meats have to be broiled or baked.   

After 7 days on the cabbage soup diet, it is advised that you stop and do not begin on it again for a minimum of 2 weeks.  During the two weeks the dieter stands a great chance of regaining the weight because they are allowed to go back to their normal routine without supervision on maintenance.

Exercise isn’t encouraged as part of this weight loss program.  It isn’t discouraged it just is not mentioned.  Before beginning this diet, a person should have a serious discussion with their health care physician so as to have the advice of a professional.  The low amount of calories taken in with this diet could very well be unsafe without the advice of a professional to guide you.  The doctor can instruct a dieter on what signs and symptoms to look for which could trigger danger for their health.  Some people have reported feeling light headed, disoriented, and weak.
