A Look At The Ingredients & Food For Cabbage Soup Diet

 

Are you interested in trying the Cabbage Soup Diet?  Before you start, you need to be aware that the cabbage soup diet is not right for anyone.  There are strict requirements and it’s not very nutritional.  Still, it does do the trick when it comes to fat weight loss.  There are a handful of ingredients that can be used during the dieting period of one week.  Soup, fruit, vegetables, meat, and brown rice are the list of acceptable foods.  Water, tea, skim milk, and cranberry juice are the drinks which meet the guidelines.

The soup you make can be made of mushrooms, cabbage, tomatoes, celery, carrots, and onions.  These are all healthy, low-calorie vegetables.  There are endless possibilities with fruits—apples, oranges, bananas, grapes, watermelons, and more.  Vegetables also come with many options.  Potatoes are fine in moderation.  Greens are certainly good (celery, lettuce, spinach, broccoli).  Brown rice is much better than white rice.  Meat should be limited to chicken and beef products.  Pork is a big no-no.  This means you can’t have that fried bologna sandwich or bacon, egg, and sausage biscuit.

It may not sound like a lot, but here are a couple of quick soup recipes to make it a little more flavorful:

  • 1 diced stick of celery (but not the entire stalk)
  • 1 pkg. of dry onion soup mix
  • 1/2 head of diced green cabbage
  • 2 sliced bell peppers
  • 2 beef or chicken bouillon cubes
  • 2 cans of diced or whole tomatoes
  • 3 sliced carrots
  • 1 large onion (purple, white, or yellow) OR 6 large onions (green)
  • Cooking spray
  • Seasonings (Soy sauce, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and parsley)
  • 1 large pot

First, you’ll need to grab the cooking spray and use it on the large pot.  Next, sauté all your veggies minus the tomatoes and onions.  Once they’re nice and tender, throw in some cabbage and around 12 cups of water.  Then add the soup mix, bouillon cubes, and the seasoning.  Once the soup is just as tender as you like it, polish it all off with tomatoes.

Here’s a recipe for cabbage soup:

  • 1 can of French onion soup OR beef broth
  • 2 chopped up white onions
  • 1 chopped green pepper
  • 1 finely chopped pepperoncini, mild
  • 4 cups of water
  • a large can of chopped tomatoes with juice
  • 1 chopped clove garlic
  • 2 Tbsp firmly packed brown sugar
  • ¾ medium chopped head cabbage
  • ½ cup of celery, chopped
  • 2 dashes of hot sauce (only if you want to add some spice to your soup)
You’ll start with your kettle.  Mix up the chopped cabbage, peppers, chopped onions, celery, beef broth, and water.  Let it boil on medium-high, then turn the temperature down to low.  Next, throw in your hot sauce, garlic, and brown sugar.  Wait about 90 minutes or until it’s nice and soft.  Finally, add the tomatoes and juice.  If necessary, pour in some more water.  4 to 6 servings.
